Local councillors will meet later today to discuss plans to build a new shopping centre and hotel at Gransha.

A multimillion pound hotel at Gransha could bring around 300 jobs to Derry, councillors have been told.

The McGinnis Group plans were discussed yesterday afternoon at the monthly meeting of Derry City Council’s planning committee.

John McGinnis and Irwin McNeill, representatives of the developers, addressed the meeting and updated committee members of the plans.

The planning application, which is currently before the Planning Service, includes a food superstore and a 100 bedroom hotel.

“In terms of employment there should be at least 100 jobs during the construction phase,” Mr McGinnis said.

“When the projects are up and running we’d expect that 200 people are employed within the various buildings.”

He said there is no reason why “work shouldn’t start next year.”
