Roe Valley businesswoman Helen Carten has been reading the national glossy magazine, Prima, for years, but she never imagined one day her business would feature in it.
The owner of the Limavady shabby chic interiors shop, Finishing Touches Too, is “chuffed to bits” at having her new business grace the pages of the January 2012 issue.
“It was a customer who came in and said to me, “I saw your shop in Prima’. I said, ‘What?’” she explained. “I was over the moon, gosh it was unreal.”
The shop features in the magazine’s ‘My favourite Shop’ in the ‘Home Life’ section and shows the colourful front of the Market Street shop.
Marie McMenamin from Limavady, who sent in the shop details, described it as beautiful and bright and stated it specialises in a range of gift and accessories as well as selling country style furniture and hand made crafts.
“I’ve been buying Prima for 20 years so to be featured in it is a privilege,” said Helen. “It’s great recognition for the town of Limavady as well. I’m chuffed to bits.”
Helen opened the shop 10 months ago, leaving her full time job to concentrate solely on the business. She admits it was a brave move given the state of the economy but, having opened one of the first shabby chic-style businesses in the area 18 years ago, she had the experience behind her.
“The premises came up for let and because it was such a good location that spurred me on. I also had such great backing from family and friends. I knew I had to do it,” she said. “The business is growing and growing and things are steady. I’m starting new things, like stocking Annie Sloan paint from January, and I hope to start craft classes in the shop as well, next year, and I’m working at building the website too. It’s been steady and the feedback from customers is brilliant. I think the fact I’m here everyday means I get to know my customers and what they like.
“Customer requests can always be fulfilled!”
