A long-established Limavady construction company has gone into administration with around 30 jobs under threat, a move which the borough’s mayor says is “another body blow” for the area.
Keenan Corporate Finance said yesterday they had been appointed administrator of McCloskey & O’Kane as of Friday.
SDLP mayor Colr. Gerry Mullan said: “McCloskey & O’Kane represented to me hope that the construction industry in this area would recover so this is sad news, and could have serious implications generally. It has been the mainstay of the industry in the Limavady area.”
Colr. Mullan said he hoped the situation would be resolved, and the company could remain viable because there was a need for such a service in the area.
“I understand about 30 jobs are under threat and that would have a big impact locally.”
Limavady remains one of the areas worst hit by the recession in recent years, with construction badly affected.
