Hotel bookings in Derry are up by 171% over the last year, according to online booking site

The booking specialists say Derry’s status as city of culture is behind the massive surge over the last twelve months and they say the spike in Derry outweighs the rise experienced by Liverpool’s hoteliers as European Capital of Culture in 2008, where bookings rose by 61%.

“Derry has really shone so far as the inaugural UK City of Culture after Liverpool held the prestigious European status in 2008,” Lynda Matthews Offline Marketing Manager at said.

“There is still plenty of availability for tourists hoping to soak up the action, and with some amazing events still to happen in Derry this year we expect culture fans to continue to flock to Northern Ireland in 2013!“

Among the upcoming events are Radio One’s Big Weekend.
