Northside plans could help roads

Sinn Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has said plans for re-development of the Northside Shopping Centre could potentially lead to major road improvements along the Glengalliagh Road

Welcoming the plans for one of the busiest areas in the city, Councillor Hassan said: “The Glengalliagh Road is one of the busiest in the city. The volume of traffic on the road has risen steadily over the years. Whilst the new Skeoge Road has taken some of the pressure off traffic travelling through the area, there are still major problems for motorists exiting from Bradley pass turning right to go towards the Madams Bank Road roundabout and exiting the Northside Shopping Centre.

“The re-development of the Northside Shopping Centre could offer a resolution to the problems currently being encountered by motorists, and pedestrians trying to cross very busy roads in the area.

“We could potentially see traffic lights being introduced at the junction of Bradley pass and the Glengalliagh Road and traffic lights at the entrance to the shopping centre. I believe that could greatly alleviate traffic problems in the area and improve road safety for local residents and children attending local schools.”
