Derry school children are being given the chance to design the official Culture Duck to celebrate their hometown being the first ever City of Culture in 2013.
The Everglades Hotel has teamed up with the City of Culture to give local school children the chance to design the Culture Duck which will be given to guests staying at the hotel throughout 2013.
The competition is open to all school children living in the city aged between 4 and 18 and, in addition to the winning design being made into the Culture Duck, the school of the winning entry will receive £500 of art vouchers and the winning child will win a Titanic themed break in The Europa Hotel.
Stephen Redden, general manager of The Everglades Hotel, said: “It is a well known fact that all guests staying in the Everglades Hotel receive a complimentary duck in their hotel room and to mark Derry being the first ever City of Culture in 2013 we wanted to get local school children involved and give them the opportunity to be part of history.
“Next year is going to be massive for Derry and we are looking forward to welcoming guests from all over the world to The Everglades Hotel and giving away in the region of 20,000 Culture Ducks. The winning duck will be waiting to greet each guest when they arrive, so this competition really is a fantastic opportunity for local school children.”
Entry forms have been sent to all schools and can be downloaded from: www.hastingshotels.com or: www.cityofculture2013.com.
The closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday, April 20.
