Digital Derry, the collaborative project to develop the digital industries in the city, has launched a £10,000 business ideas competition with an event at the University of Ulster, Magee.
SeedComp 2011, funded by urban regeneration company ILEX, is designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs get their new digital media business ideas off the ground.
As Derry’s Digital Champion, Mark Nagurski, explained: “Anyone can start a digital business with little more than a laptop and an internet connection. In fact, many exciting businesses have been started for less than the cost of a nice summer holiday. However, pulling together than first few thousand pounds to get an idea off the ground can still be a barrier, particularly to young entrepreneurs. SeedComp is designed to address that initial funding gap and provide the cash needed to help prospective entrepreneurs take their idea from plan to launch as quickly as possible.”
The competition is open to both individuals and teams with exciting ideas in a range of digital arenas, from games development to e-learning. The overall winner will walk away with £5000 to help fund their business idea while up to three other ideas will receive between £1,000 and £2,000 each.
