NI Water has confirmed that the construction of a new Pumping Station in Galliagh has been completed, with associated works to finish within weeks.
The work on the Upper Galliagh Road is one of several capital projects recommended in the Derry Drainage Area Plan of 2006.
The contract includes the replacement of wastewater pumping stations at Upper Galliagh Road and at Knockalla, with new increased capacity stations.
The new wastewater pumping stations will increase the capacity of the sewerage system, allow for future development in the area, and reduce the risk of ‘out-of-sewer’ flooding.
An NI Water spokesman said: “In relation to ongoing work in the Upper Galliagh area, NI Water can confirm that construction is complete and that the facility is in operation. Some minor works are currently being completed, including the placement of bollards, etc.
“All reinstatement of the roads and footpaths has been completed; this includes the realignment of a section of the road and full reinstatement of the section of road along the front of the pumping station. The site compound has also been removed.
“NI Water anticipates that all work in the Upper Galliagh area will be completed by the end of September and we would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while we complete this essential work.”
