The huge biscuit sculpture is accompanied by other iconic UK landmarks and will be displayed in the window of the Koppel Project, 93 Baker Street London, as the countdown to this year’s event, on Friday 30th September, begins.

The landmarks have all been chosen to give thanks to the millions of people that helped raise £27.6 million during last year’s event alone.

Macmillan is encouraging people to sign up to host a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning this year by visiting www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee. Whether big or small, baked or faked, each and every coffee morning helps change the lives of people affected by cancer.

Macmillan has used its 26 years of experience to identify wonderful coffee morning hosts from across the country and immortalised their local landmarks in biscuit, including: the New Macmillan Support Centre on the health and wellbeing campus at Altnagelvin Hospital (currently under construction).

Derry – Macmillan is investing £1.5 million in a new Macmillan Support Centre on the health and wellbeing campus at Altnagelvin Hospital. Local people have thrown their support behind fundraising for the project with the most coffee morning signs up in Northern Ireland coming from this area last year.

Other buildings include:

The Shard – The nation’s capital boasted 7,500 coffee mornings last year with the most taking place in SE1

Welsh Assembly – The Welsh capital Cardiff stole the show in Wales with the most coffee morning registrations in a single postcode coming from the centre of the city.

As a reminder of the crucial role Macmillan nurses play in supporting people affected by cancer, Katherine Stevens, a Macmillan lung clinical nurse specialist, was on hand to unveil the huge biscuit sculpture.

The mammoth structure, spanning more than 80 square foot is made up of 25,000 biscuits! Macmillan has also created cutting guides that enable budding bakers and coffee morning hosts to bake their own landmarks, available to download from www.macmillan.org.uk/biscuits.

Claire Driscoll, National Events Marketing Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:

“This year we really wanted to say thank you to everyone that helps make the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning so special. We’ve seen support for the event grow year on year for the past 25 years and now, through the power of biscuit, we’re seeing the whole nation come together.

“Regardless of size, location, and whether you bake it or if you fake it, each slice of cake shared at a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning really does change lives by helping us ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.”
