Calls have been made for the inauguration of the new chieftain of the O’Dochartaigh clan to be held in Derry next year during the City of Culture celebrations.
Spanish-born Ramon O’Dogherty Junior is expected to be named as the new chieftain, succeeding his father, also called Ramon, who died last year.
It is understood that Mr O’Dogherty Jnr. has said he is prepared to fulfil his obligations and perform his duties as hereditary chieftain of Inishowen.
Fionnbarra O Dochartaigh, former international editor of the O Dochartaigh clan newsletter, Ár nDútchas, has suggested that Mr O’Dogherty Jnr. should be inaugurated as chieftain at the historic crowning stone in the grounds of Belmont School next summer.
Mr O’Dochartaigh suggested that the ceremony should take place during the Fleadh Cheoil na h’Éireann, which will be held in the city next summer.
If the inauguration does not take place next summer it will most likely be held in 2015 during the five yearly international O Dochartaigh clan reunion.
