A Sinn Fein councillor has called on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to create a masterplan for Dungiven, something he claims is needed to “regenerate” the town.

Colr. Sean McGlinchey said while business and homeowners work hard to ensure the front of their properties look attractive, he said areas of dereliction are making the rest of the Main Street area untidy.

“I have asked the Council for a masterplan for Dungiven, because the town needs something badly,” said Colr. McGlinchey. “I am hoping a meeting will take place by the end of September, to see what can be done to get a plan in place to regenerate the town because it badly needs it. There are measures that can be taken. It’s just a matter of sitting down together, and looking at a way forward.”

Colr. McGlinchey has organised a clean-up in Dungiven tomorrow at 10am, starting off at the car park beside the Credit Union.

“It’s no good sitting complaining about cutbacks. We have to take community action, take ownership and pride of the town and do something ourselves,” he added.
