PUPILS from the Thornhill College class of 1991 are being invited to come forward to help mark 20 years since they last walked through those hallowed gates on the Culmore Road.

All pupils who attended the school, starting as nervous first years in 1984 and leaving as confident 6th formers in 1991 are invited to come along to a reunion at Pitchers Wine Bar on August 20 to relive all their memories of life at Thornhill in the days when it still nestled beside the river.

Anne-Marie O’Hara, one of the organising committee said there has already been a great deal of interest in the reunion on Facebook with more than 30 past pupils already confirming their attendance. However she is keen to get as many of her former classmates together as possible to make the evening a night to remember.

“The word is spreading fast and everyone is getting very nostalgic and excited about the much anticipated reunion,” Anne Marie said.

However she said she recognised that some people may feel a little nervous at the prospect of ‘going back to school’.

“We also realise that some ladies are apprehensive about attending on their own, walking in and not knowing who’s going to be there!

“All I can say is remember back in 1984 when we all went to Thornhill for the first time how nervous we were then but how quickly we all made friends.

“The reunion committee will be there to welcome everyone and we look forward to reuniting as many Thornhill ladies as possible on what promises to be a fantastic fun-filled event.”

For those unable to attend the committee have arranged ways for them to still be part of the evening. “If you are unfortunately not able to attend, please feel free to send a short video message and these will also be played to everyone on the night. There will also be memory boxes and photos and memorabilia on display on the evening of Thornhill from that time. If there is anything ex pupils or teachers from this year would like to bring to the display, please get in touch with any member of the reunion committee.”

Tickets are priced at £10 to include entertainment and hot buffet and are available from contacting Anne Marie or committee members Dominique Collins, Katrina Heaney and Anna Harkin.
