A campaign has been launched to invite the team behind the hugely successful Channel 4 series ‘Time Team’ to investigate the land in and around Enagh Lough at Strathfoyle.

The show’s producers have already been approached by members of the Enagh Youth Forum and has gained the support of local schools, community groups and Derry City Council.

Paul Hughes, Peer Support Worker with the Forum explained: “Our group has carried out a lot of research regarding Enagh Lough with a view to inviting the Channel 4 Time Team programme to carry out a dig in the area giving the historical significance of the land.”

Mr Hughes said young people from the Forum have been carrying out their own research in association with Derry City Council and are confident that the site would be a rich resource for the programme’s producers, stretching from neolithic times onwards.

Forum member David Bradley added: “Given the fact that Derry City has been awarded City of Culture status for 2013, we firmly believe that a visit and dig by the Time Team during 2012 would really have a positive impact to the build up to all that is planned for 2013.”

The Forum members will be continuing to gather support for their bid and lobbying for the support of local people as well as from the City of Culture Committee.
