Cancer centre to move from prostate treatment to other cancers in new year

The new radiotherapy centre at Altnagelvin will not be fully operational until next May, the Health Minister, Michelle O'Neill has confirmed.

The Minister said the new state-of-the-art facility started off treating prostate cancer patients but explained that this will expand in 2017.

“Phase two, which is due to start in the new year, will see a gradual increase in the number of patients and different types of cancers being treated at the centre,” she stated.

“It is planned that the new centre will be fully operational by the end of May 2017,” she added.
