Sinn Féin Councillor Colly Kelly was speaking after the vehicle hit the perimeter wall of a house in Grangemore Park area.

The incident occurred as fog descended across many parts of the north west last night, adding to the already treacherous conditions in parts due to ice on untreated roads.

Temperatures have since risen, leading to a thaw across the north west on Saturday morning.

Councillor Kelly said: “This must have been a very frightening experience for anyone caught up in this incident.

“Anyone living in Grangemore would tell you that this is a very busy road with traffic and pedestrians going to and from the local shops.

“It was a very foggy night and there was a lot of ice about so this could have been much worse.”
