Sinn Féin Councillor Colly Kelly has written to DRD TransportNI after a number of residents living in Grangemore and Ard Grange contacted him to complain about the volume of traffic and lack of road markings in the area.

Speaking after a meeting with local residents Colr. Kelly urged motorists to “slow down” when travelling through the estate.

“I have been contacted by a number of local residents over the past few months and met with some this week to discuss a number of concerns they have over the speed, volume of traffic travelling through the area and lack of road markings.

“These are two very large developments with several hundred homes, so it is always very busy with traffic anytime of the day or night .I would urge motorists to slow down whilst travelling through the area and to adhere to the speed limits in such built up areas.”

Colr. Kelly said it has been fortuitous that a serious incident has not already happened.

“The Grangemore and Ard Grange areas have grown considerably in recent years and residents with young families have expressed their concerns to me over speeding cars in the area which pose an obvious risk to children and other pedestrians.

“And that due to no road markings in some places motorists are actually driving on the wrong side of the road and the residents I spoke to this week told me it’s only sheer luck there hasn’t been a serious accident particularly on the bend on the way out of the development.”
