The career of County Derry singer John McNicholl has gone from strength to strength over the past two years and the charismatic singer will no doubt attract a huge crowd for his annual Christmas concert at the Millennium Forum tonight, December 5.
John spoke to the ‘Journal’ ahead of tomorrow’s concert to talk about his recent achievements in the country music scene.
“I’ve been flat out, giving it 100% these days, so I’m so glad to be back home for a day or two as it’s been too long! I’m just back from Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco. We had three busloads of fans over with us and it was brilliant craic. There was a great response to me over there and they love the Irish, which is a great plus,” he said.
“This year alone we’ve been to Spain, England, Scotland, Nashville, Memphis, Los Angeles, San Franciso, Las Vegas and a Mediterranean cruise! It’s been all go, but I can’t complain as it’s everything I’ve ever wanted.”
As well as gallivanting around the globe, John had the recent honour of representing Ireland at the Festival of Nations at Dollywood, Dolly Parton’s themed heaven, which he was thrilled about: “I couldn’t believe it, I was the only Irish singer invited to sing at the Festival of Nations in Dollywood, which was a fabulous opportunity and I later got a letter from Dolly to say she how proud she was!”
As well as wowing Dollywood, John also received the Best Newcomer Award at the Irish World Awards this year, represented Ireland at CMA Global Showcase in Nashville and with three successful albums, John is certainly on the crest of a wave.
John will have a new DVD available for the Christmas market too: “I’ve been working hard filming it over the past six months. It’s my first DVD and I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out. People are taking notice of the music and although all this touring is a lot of hard work, I wouldn’t change it for the world!”
Don’t miss the North West’s best loved country singer, John McNicholl, in concert at the Millennium Forum tonight, December 5.
