A charity quiz in aid of the Diabetes Pregnancy Fund at Altnagelvin Hospital will be held on Thursday, November 3, in the Style Bar at Da Vinci’s Hotel, Derry.
The fundraiser aims to raise money to provide Altnagelvin with another Guardian Blood Sugar Monitor, an important device that can help pregnant women with diabetes monitor their blood sugars during pregnancy. The quiz is the latest in a series of activities organised by local woman Anne Hutton and her family.
Mrs Hutton was inspired after the pregnancy of her own daughter, who has Type I Diabetes.
“Whilst she was pregnant, my daughter was given a Guardian Blood Sugar Monitor, on loan, from the Ante Natal Diabetic Clinic, which she was able to use for the duration of her pregnancy.”
It soon transpired that Altnagelvin ante-natal clinic had only three of these machines and could do with more.
With these machines costing in the region of £2,000 each, and the probes costing £60 for a pack of six that must be changed weekly, they are an expensive necessity. As a token of gratitude, the Huttons began fundraising,
“To date, two of my daughters, my son-in-law and my niece have been sponsored to run in the Waterside Half Marathon and have raised over £500,” she said. “My recently married daughter also gave a donation to the fund in lieu of wedding favours. The quiz is our next effort to add to the fund.”
Join the charity quiz on Thursday, November 3, in the Style Bar at Da Vinci’s Hotel, Derry, at 8pm.
