HSE Donegal has confirmed it will subside Dublin flights for children with life limiting conditions.
The news came after HSE Donegal met with the group ‘Our Children’s Voice’ earlier this month to discuss the supports available to children and their families.
‘Our Children’s Voice’ is a group of mothers from Donegal, including Inishowen, who all have children with a life limiting condition.
The parents requested the HSE subsidise air transport from Carrickfin airport in west Donegal to Dublin when children are required to attend Dublin hospitals.
The HSE have now agreed to subsidise the flight cost similar to the scheme available to cancer patients.
The HSE and ‘Our Children’s Voice’ will now finalise the criteria which will benefit families in West Donegal in particular.
The HSE Donegal said they will continue to meet with ‘Our Children’s voice’ on an ongoing basis in order to continually improve communications and enhance supports offered to the group.
A spokesperson for Our Children’s Voice said they were “grateful for this opportunity to be able to bring Our Children’s Voice’s directly to the table and hopefully get more changes for their benefit in Donegal.”
