Sinn Féin Councillor Brenda Chivers has expressed her anger at the weekend arson attack at the Men’s Shed in Limavady.

Colr. Chivers said: “This project run by ‘Be Safe Be Well’ on the Roemill Road area of the town has only been here for a few months, but it was a brilliant addition to the local community. A lot of work went into the project and to see all that effort destroyed in a moment of reckless vandalism is devastating to the volunteers and staff who work there, and to the people who avail of the services it provides.

“These type of projects are becoming very popular across the North West and further afield.”

Colr. Chivers added: “Be Safe Be Well will no doubt will go from strength to strength in helping people with their mental and physical well being, no matter what age.

“I hope the group recovers and are able to return to providing top quality help and assistance to the community it has served so well, and that the perpetrators are caught and brought to justice. I would encourage anyone with information on this crime to contact the PSNI.”
