Derry has the highest levels of unpaid child maintenance in the North, new figures have revealed.
£3.3 million has been unpaid in the Waterside area of the city - the highest arrears in the North - while 368 children are not receiving a maintenance payment in the BT48 area of Derry.
Sinn Féin councillor Patricia Logue expressed concern at the figures. “The Social Development Minister would need to get to grips with this issue as a matter of urgency.
“By allowing this situation to develop the Minister is failing thousands of vulnerable children in our communities.
“This continued loss of such substantial amounts of money cannot go on indefinitely. It’s apparent this system is not working and needs reviewed urgently,” she said.
