City Walls talk at new Siege Museum

The event is part of the new museum’s outreach programme which is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The talk will take place in the museum on Thursday, April 21 from 7pm-8pm.

Mark Lusby, who is Project Coordinator for the Friends of the Derry Walls, will talk on the subject of ‘London’s Derry Walls’.

The Friends of the Derry Walls is an open association of people who are passionate about the economic social and cultural potential of the city Walls.

The Friends are spearheading plans for the 400th anniversary of the completion of the city Walls in 2018.

Mark Lusby has been involved in projects promoting the heritage of the city walls since 1995 including the conservation of the cannon on the walls, the provision of interpretative panels for the walls, and the development of the programme to conserve and regenerate the Walled City’s iconic heritage buildings.

In his illustrated talk, he will describe what really makes the city Walls a monument of local, national and international significance.

He says the Walls are a piece of public realm which make the city centre unique and form part of a network of walled towns across the island of Ireland.

In his talk, he will reveal fascinating details about the city Walls as well as the “ten key facts” which every citizen should know about the historic Walls.

He will also discuss how the current knowledge and presentation of the city Walls is very much ‘unfinished business’.
