Sinn Féin Transport spokesperson Councillor Tony Hassan has called on Transport NI (formerly known as Roads Service) to clarify its policy on gritting its car parks during cold spells.
Colr. Hassan made his comments after he was contacted by users of the car parks in the city who said they felt the surface of the car parks was at times dangerous with snow and ice.
“I have been contacted by several people in the city who have used a number of car parks during this time and they have brought to me their concerns about the slippery surfaces in several of these car parks.
“I am calling on TransportNI to clarify its policy on gritting its car parks during cold spells. These car parks are used by hundreds of people daily and they may not be a key priority when trying to keep our roads open but nonetheless it’s important that they are included in whatever plan the agencies use during extreme weather conditions.”
