Mags Connolly, community champion for Tesco, said: “The Backburn Path has been an area that has suffered greatly from vandalism and anti-social behaviour in the past, and I thought that if i could get enough people involved that this might create a little pride and sense of ownership in the area.”

Joining Tesco staff were conservation volunteers from charity Men’s Shed, Be Safe Be Well, Termoncanice PS, the HOPE summer camp, The Glens Association, and local company, Land Masters.

“It truly is a beautiful park that is not being utilised to its full potential. Hopefully this project will provide the kick-start needed for the regeneration of the area,” said Ms Connolly.

“I have been overwhelmed by the amount of support I’ve received from the local community around this project, and it is fantastic to see everyone from the different groups working side by side and taking pride in our Town”

As well lifting litter, volunteers replaced damaged trees, planted shrubs and wild flowers, erected bird boxes, bat boxes and bug hotels and removed graffiti.
