Dutch DJ Martin Garrix will headline this year’s Club MTV event in Derry, the ‘Journal’ can exclusively reveal.
A huge name on the dance scene, ‘Garrix’ tops global charts; sells multi-platinum records and headlines festival main stages worldwide.
He also picked up an award for ‘Best Electronic Act’ at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2015 and is best known for his track ‘Animals.’
The Club MTV Derry event will be staged on Saturday, September 10th at Ebrington Square and joining Martin Garrix will be Example with DJ Wire, as well as Coleraine-based DJ Junior J.
The line-up will be great news for dance fans in the city and further afield, with the 12,000 tickets available expected to sell out.
DJs in their own right Example and DJ Wire had collaborated on a number of tracks, releasing an album together 2011.
Releasing his debut album in 2007, Example has had meteoric success resulting in number 1 singles, a Glastonbury performance, as well as a 2012 BRIT nomination for British Single resulting in sought-after tours from an army of fans.
The local act, Junior J, from Coleraine, has been described as Northern Ireland’s hottest new export and he is due to release a major dance tune later this month.
The DJ and producer - son of Lush! DJ Col Hamilton - has already carved an impressive niche in the music industry that many other 21-year-olds can only dream of.
He has gained a reputation for infectious house grooves, incorporating energetic, old school dance sounds on his records and sets.
MTV staged its first concert in Derry in 2014 when they hosted the MTV ‘Crashes Derry Event.’
The American based music channel returned to the city last year to stage a Club MTV concert in August which attracted over 13,000 revellers.
Tickets will be priced at £24 plus the booking fee for this year’s event and they go on sale on Saturday, March 12th, from Cool Discs, online at www.ticketmaster.ie and at Ticketmaster oulets, including the kiosk at Foyleside Shopping Centre.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Elisha McCallion, has welcomed news that Club MTV is returning to Ebrington Square once again this summer thanks to a successful partnership with Club MTV and local company Legacy Promotions.
“This is fantastic news for the city and district and such an exciting development for our young people,” said the Mayor.
“Last year’s event proved a huge success for everyone involved and I am delighted that the event is returning and that we are putting our name on the map for hosting large scale outdoor music events,” she added.
“The involvement of Legacy Promotions in this partnership is further evidence of the growing confidence of local businesses to build on the work that was done during our City of Culture year to bring about events that will enhance our offering not only for residents but also for tourists.”
Describing Ebrington Square as an “ideal location to host large scale events,” Colr. McCallion said the return to Club MTV Club would be bigger and better than before.
“Ebrington Square is an ideal location to host large scale events and I am confident this gig will be bigger and better than before and successful in attracting audiences from all over the island of Ireland and beyond.”
