Colmcille Pipe Band have crowned a winning season by taking home one of the top prizes at the 69th Piping World Championships held in Glasgow at the weekend.
The All-Ireland winners joined fellow Northern Ireland bands at the championships as they took home a host of silver ware between them.
Congratulations were led by Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness who said that the win was a “magnificent achievement”.
Praise also came from Derry’s mayor Elisha McCallion and SDLP MLA Pat Ramsay who tweeted that the band’s hard work and training had paid off.
Mr Ramsay also paid tribute to the late Barney Hasson who founded the band. “He was totally unsectarian and founded the band in the height of the Troubles,” said Mr Ramsay.
“Barney your such a legend in the Derry Diocese. I bet your standing proud.”
