Local people have been invited to a special day of confessions which will be held in St. Eugene’s Cathedral on Saturday.

As part of the celebrations for the Holy Year of Mercy in the Diocese of Derry, Confessions will be heard continuously in four Centres of Mercy on Saturday (19th December) from 10.30 am to 6.00 pm.

The four churches established as Centres of Mercy for the Diocese are St Eugene’s Cathedral, Sacred Heart Church, Omagh, St Mary’s Church, Maghera and The Oratory, Buncrana.

“It is an opportunity for all of us to understand better the mercy of God – and to become a more merciful Church in the service of Christ. The outcome is not that we can feel holier or better – but that Jesus, the face of the Father’s mercy, will be better known and loved.” (Excerpt from Bishop McKeown’s Pastoral Letter for the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.)

Bishop McKeown will visit each of the four churches throughout the day. He said “Everyone is invited to the Centres of Mercy on Saturday, where priests will be available all day, to receive the gift of Mercy as we prepare for Christmas”.
