Derry singer Conor McGinty has taken to popular US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres asking if he can perform his debut single on her show.
In what he himself describes as a “huge shot in the dark”, Conor has taken the bull by the horns and written to the US star via Facebook outlining his dreams to perform ‘Kings Of Our Time’ on one of America’s most watched shows.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show is a massive hit with homes across the US, averaging viewing figures of 4 million per episode.
In his letter, Conor has outlined his recent success on the X Factor, having made it to the Six Chair Challenge and narrowly missing out in a place at Judges’ houses.
He states: “I have just released my debut original single ‘Kings Of Our Time’ written by my good friend David Oliver here in Ireland and we have put together the music video in one of the most historical buildings in my hometown of Derry.
“The reaction so far has been great ...BUT as I’m sure you know ... Trying to get your song noticed independently with very little money or backing behind you is VERY difficult.
“I really hope you and your team can have a watch and a listen and let me know what you think. We think it’s really special and would love to perform it on your show!”
He has signed off “A 22 year old Irish Kid with huge dreams.”
The post has snowballed since Conor put it online, with the message being shared by hundreds on social media and the hashtag #GetConorOnEllen gaining momentum.
Ellen DeGeneres is one of America’ leading entertainers , having previously also having had her own sitcom.
Together with Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jordan, Elouise Cobell, Robert Redford, Diana Ross, Robert De Niro and a number of other high profile people, Ellen received the Presidential Medal of Honour from outgoing US President Barack Obama two weeks ago at the White House to mark her contribution.
