The 28 year-old fighter from Dublin swore many times during the press event and proceeded to try and attack Alvarez using a chair.

Respected sports blogger, Les Carpenter, described the incident as the ‘cheapening of Conor McGregor’s once-clever act’.

Another Irish M.M.A. fan Tweeted: “McGregor looks more like a clown than he does a fighter these days.”

“Conor [McGregor] used to be a class act when it came to promoting fights, now he behaves like a deranged thug,” added another fan on Facebook.

However, some fans enjoyed McGregor’s grandstanding and described the Irish M.M.A. champion as “the best fight promoter in the world”.

It’s not the first time McGregor’s behaviour has landed him in hot water.

In August, McGregor threw bottles at opponent Nate Diaz and his entourage at a press conference. McGregor was subsequently fined $75,000 fine from the Nevada Athletic Commission.

U.F.C. 205 McGregor vs. Alvarez is being billed as the biggest and most important in the history of U.F.C. and will be the first time a U.F.C. event will have taken place in New York city.

Alvarez is defending his U.F.C. Lightweight belt and McGregor is defending his U.F.C. Featherweight title for the first time since he defeated Jose Aldo at U.F.C. 194 in December 2015.
