Contention surrounding the funeral of Peggy O’Hara

Controversy has surrounded the funeral of Peggy O’Hara, son of 1981 hunger striker Patsy O’Hara. Mrs O’Hara was buried on Saturday morning following her sudden death last week after a brief illness. She was 86-years-old.

Last Wednesday night the INLA fired a volley of shots over her coffin outside her home. On Saturday, her funeral procession including a large paramilitary display as it moved towards Derry City Cemetery.

Unionist politicians have demanded police action over the display, but Mrs O’Hara’s granddaughter has said the display was the wish of Peggy O’Hara.
