Council chief to join Ofcom

The outgoing Chief Executive of Derry City Council, Sharon O’Connor is to take up a new post with Ofcom as of September this year.

Ofcom announced the appointments of three new members to the Advisory Committee for Northern Ireland on August 13.

Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications, wireless communications and postal services.

The Advisory Committee for Northern Ireland advises Ofcom about the interests and opinions, in relation to communications and postal matters, of persons living in Northern Ireland.

Ms O’Connor joined Derry City Council in 2011 having come from a position at Down District Council. She will be succeeded at Derry City Council by Mr John Kelpie who is currently overseeing the Shadow Council.
