Council '˜monitoring' situation as Brexit poll gap narrows
Derry City & Strabane District Council officials have said they are monitoring the EU referendum process as the gap narrows in the polls on whether the UK will vote to exit the EU. Experts have predicted that a vote to leave could have major ramifications for Derry and Donegal, and in particular cross-border workers and trade. A council spokeswoman said the local authority was 'working in close partnership with the relevant government departments and stakeholders in terms of contingency planning on the various aspects a Leave vote would have on the Council.'
Meanwhile a spokesperson for City of Derry Airport said that it is working closely with airport and aviation industry groups including the Aerodrome Operators’ Association to articulate the impact that Brexit would have on the aviation industry.
“The Airport is confident that the local people, tourists and businesses greatly value their local airport and its connectivity, accessibility and competitiveness and the important role it plays in contributing to the local economy and will continue to use their local airport,” she said.
