Mayor McClintock said Ronan’s death was “another terrible tragedy in our city”, adding that since the tragic episode “all of us who are parents or grandparents just sympathised so much”.

Speaking at the funeral of little Ronan McGavigan last Wednesday, Fr Eamon Graham told mourners gathered in St Columba’s Long Tower Church that the little boy had brought such happiness to the family during his short life.

“He was only two and a half years old yet he was full of love; full of joy and with a good helping of rascality,” Fr Graham said.
