The people of Derry must come out in support of the Council’s Community Safety Wardens, who have received threats from dissident Republicans in the city, leading trade unionist Liam Gallagher has said.

Liam Gallagher, Chairman of the Irish Region of Unite and Secretary of the Derry Trades Union Council urged the people of the city to come out in force tomorrow (Thursday) at 1pm to support the council workers at a public protest outside the Council offices.

“These threats are completely, and without question, reprehensible,” Mr Gallagher told the ‘Journal’.

“These people were employed to help in local communities - and to have them threatened in such a manner marks a new low in this city.

“The whole community must come out in force to say this is not acceptable - that these days of kangaroo courts are behind us and must stay behind us.”
