Derry City Council will discuss how to ensure that local workers benefit from the City of Culture celebrations in 2013.
The issue will be discussed at the monthly meeting of Derry City Council on Thursday when a motion tabled by Sinn Féin councillor Gerry MacLochlainn will be tabled.
The motion calls for support to be given to local firms applying for contracts and tenders.
Colr. MacLochlainn said; “We need to ensure that local businesses are aware of the opportunities coming up and have the capacity to engage with commissioning bodies to ensure that contracts are won by local contractors and service providers. This is not about special treatment for Derry firms but creating a level playing field where local companies have the same chances as others.”
