Derry Sinn Fein Councillor and Housing spokesperson Tony Hassan has echoed the concerns from some unions that the Housing Executive is being systematically dismantled.
“All the things that are currently happening within the Housing Executive many believe point to the break-up of the of the organisation as we know it. It’s something that I have been saying could happen over the last two years.
Colr. Hassan added: “The Department of Social Development has already begun the process of breaking up the Housing Executive by changing its structures and handing over some of its housing stock to Housing Associations. There are also fears that when members of staff leave the Housing Executive their positions will not be replaced.
“We all need to be robust in our defence of the Housing Executive and speak with one voice be that in our councils or in the Assembly to tell the DSD Minister we will not allow this to happen.”
