A 24-year-old man has appeared in court accused of assaulting police and behaving in a disorderly manner in Altnagelvin Hospital.

Edward Doherty, of Burnside Manor, is charged with two counts of assault on police, disorderly behaviour and resisting police on July 9.

Derry Magistrates Court heard allegations the offences took place in the A&E Department in Altnagelvin Hospital ‘in full view of patients and staff’.

Doherty was released on bail to appear in court again on August 14.

As part of his bail conditions the 24-year-old is banned from being intoxicated in public and from attending Altnagelvin Hospital, unless he is there for medical attention or visiting someone.
