Admitted consuming five ‘tabs’ of ecstasy

An Eglinton man who admitted possessing ecstasy has been fined £300.

John Ross Cochrane, of 9 Dellwood in the village, pleaded guilty to possessing the class A drug on August 7, last year.

Derry Magistrates Court heard that police were called to a bar in Shipquay Street and the 22 year-old was being detained by door staff.

Cochrane was discovered with two small white tablets and he admitted to officers he had consumed five tablets that night already.

Defence solicitor Dermot Downey told the court his client had a difficulty with drugs at the time and the tablets found were for his personal use.
