SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack has expressed concern over the return of an anti-social element to a car parking area along the Strand Road.

Colr. Cusack said concerns have been raised over recent weeks regarding the issue of noise and cars revving engines and racing along the Strand Road.

She said: “I have had a barrage of complaints over this past week from residents of Foyleview, Meadowview, Barry Street, Phillip street, as far as Lawrence Hill.

“According to reports it is only three-four cars responsible and according to one young father they have been keeping his infants awake until 4am some nights. Another lady is disgusted that when she approached a group for urinating at the electric box at the entrance to her apartments she was subjected to verbal abuse.

“I can only surmise that these individuals are new to the scene and have not been party to all the progressive work by ourselves, the residents, users and PSNI.”

Colr. Cusack said the PSNI have been made aware of the issue and are requesting that residents report offences and registration numbers.

“They have assured me that they will be monitoring the situation,” she said, while also appealing to anyone in the local car fraternity who knows those responsible to have a word because “what they are doing not only demonises all car enthusiasts but is destroying the good relations and progress we have made these past two years”.
