Reports of a child being abducted into a van in Derry last night was actually a misunderstanding, the PSNI have said.
The alarm was raised after someone mistakenly believed a boy was being put into the back of a van in the Belmont area.
The incident sparked widespread concern among parents and the wider community after being reported and shared on social networking site Facebook.
However this episode- which came following a spate of other worrying reports of attempted abductions and approaches made to children over recent weeks in Derry- turned out to be a false alarm.
A PSNI spokeswoman confirmed today: “Police received a report of an incident at Grainan Drive on Sunday evening.
“Following enquires, this is now believed to have been a misunderstanding and no offences have been disclosed and no complaints received.”
