Vandals have wrecked a bank machine at Strathfoyle ge on the outskirts of Derry.

Sinn Fein councillor Paul Fleming says the vandalism, which happened over the weekend, has robbed the community of a vital facility.

“I would urge anyone who has information on who was behind the vandalism of the cash machine in Strathfoyle to bring it forward to the police straight away,” he says.

“It’s absolutely ridiculous that anyone would even contemplate attacking what is an essential community facility.”

Mr Fleming says it is the only cash machine for some distance.

“People rely on this very important facility and without it they would to have travel miles to get access to a bank machine. That’s the last thing anyone either wants to have to do or can afford, if they are looking to access small amounts of money to get the likes of credit on a card for electricity in the middle of winter or buy a loaf of bread or pint of milk.”
