A judge has called for the government to ‘look at’ ways to stop disqualified drivers here applying for licences across the border.
District Judge Barney McElholm made the comment as 44-year-old Matilda Diver appeared in court.
Diver, of Labre Park, was fined £250 and given six penalty points for travelling at 39mph in November last year. She had been disqualified from driving in Northern Ireland but got a licence in the Republic of Ireland. Judge McElholm said that disqualified drivers in border areas seem “to dip in and out of both jurisdictions to obtain a driving licence”.
