The killing of Barry McCrory can never be justified, mourners have been told at the funeral of the 35 year-old murder victim.
The father of two’s funeral Mass is taking place at St Joseph’s Church in Galliagh this morning.
In his homily, Father Michael Caughey said Barry’s death came “very suddenly and violently”.
He added: “It happened in tragic circumstances and that sort of death is murder we can never justify - no matter what those circumstances might be - ours is not to judge.”
Fr McCaughey said a death like Barry’s “creates great pain, heartbreak and shock for family and indeed for communities.”
He added: “We ask God’s kindness and mercy for the soul of Barry - kindness for good of his life, mercy for his human imperfections”.
“Barry was a son, brother, father, uncle and nephew. He was loved and respected within his family. They know his goodness and love and so too I am told he loved his family - taking time with the young ones within the family and enjoying their company.”
