Brothers who tried to obstruct police searching for drugs have been jailed for three months.

Lee Collins, of Drummond Manor, Limavady, pleaded guilty to obstructing police on August 7, last year.

His 22-year-old brother Luke Alexander Collins, of Sperrin Road in the town, pleaded guilty to obstructing police and possessing cannabis.

Derry Magistrate’s Court heard the brothers were in a car stopped on the Clooney Carriageway. Luke Collins was searched and was found to be in possession of cannabis. He snatched a bag containing the drugs off a police officer and ran off before being arrested.

Lee then grabbed a phone off his brother and threw it on the road causing it to smash.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told the court the phone was examined and nothing relating to drugs was found. He added that the cannabis seized from the 22-year-old was a small amount.
