Car crashed after woman hijacked at knifepoint

Three people have been arrested after a car was hijacked in Derry and crashed at Muff.

A female driver was threatened at knifepoint by a man during the hijacking incident at Clooney Terrace at around 10pm on Friday night.

Police said the woman, who was forced from the parked Ford Fiesta, was “left shocked” but unhurt.

A police spokesperson said: “The hijacker then made off in a navy coloured vehicle, stopping to pick up two females outside a nearby off licence before driving off at speed.”

The car crossed the border into Inishowen a short time later and crashed on the road between Muff and Quigley’s Point.

The man was arrested by Garda officers and remains in custody while the two females were taken to Altnagelvin Hospital for medical examination and subsequently arrested by PSNI officers.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information which could assist enquiries to contact them at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000. Or you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
