SDLP councillor John Boyle says a proposed guide for museums in the city does not recognise the importance of the civil rights campaign.
The proposed wording to the guide was discussed at the monthly meeting of Derry City Council’s development committee on Tuesday.
Councillor Boyle said; “I have a few reservations about what is in it and what is not in it and how much attention is given to some things over others. I feel there are some omissions. One of the biggest was the fact that the civil rights movement was dealt with in one sentence. That in no way recognises its importance. People are sitting here in this chamber as a direct result of that movement,” he said.
Councillors were told there is a window to address concerns and allow changes before the text is finalised and it was agreed that the matter would be discussed at a meeting of party leaders.
