Client was ‘very, very drunk’ at time of offence

A Waterside man who was swearing and shouting abuse in the city centre has been fined £500.

Conor Healy, of Pelham Road, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on November 1, last year.

The charge relates to an incident in the Strand Road area.

Derry Magistrates Court heard the 21-year-old was shouting and swearing outside a local bar and he was warned by police about his behaviour.

However, he continued to shout abuse and he was arrested.

Healy claimed someone had tried to start a fight with him and he was “angry”.

Defence solicitor Kevin Casey told the court his client was “very, very” drunk, the disorderly was “fairly low level” and the abuse was “generic”.
