Cop shop drops off Council agenda

Amidst considerable amusement locally about the flying of a Tricolour at the now closed Dungiven PSNI station, the ‘Journal’ can reveal the former barracks is no longer part of plans by Limavady Council for a multi-million pound community and sports project, and will likely go on the open market for sale.

Council had made an expression of interest earlier this year in the vacant station, as part of plans for a project totalling just over £7 million.

However, they are thought to be withdrawing that interest due to environmental concerns around the Ballyquin Road site, namely possible flooding and Japanese Knotweed.

A Council spokesperson confirmed: “After looking at a number of sites in Dungiven, Limavady Council has taken a decision to concentrate its interest in developing new indoor facilities on the existing site at Chapel Road”.
