Cops hunt Benone ‘flasher’

Police are appealing for information after a report that a man indecently exposed himself to two young local girls at Benone beach last Wednesday afternoon, writes Sheena Jackson.

It is understood the man exposed himself to the girls as they were on a walkway at around 2.15pm on Wednesday, July 27.

Limavady deputy Mayor, SDLP Colr. Orla Beattie said she was “shocked” the man was “so brazen in broad daylight at such a busy time of the day in a family area”.

“It is awful that something so terrible, so disgusting, can happen at Benone. The beach is supposed to be a safe area for kids in the summer,” said Colr. Beattie.

“It’s an absolute disgrace and hopefully the police will catch this man. Anyone with information needs to come forward with it and help police.”

A Limavady Borough Council spokesperson said: “Regular duneland and beach patrols are carried out by beach rangers and the RNLI staff.

“In this instance staff received a report from a member of the public and responded immediately by checking out the identified location and reporting the matter to the PSNI.

“We cannot make any further comment as PSNI investigations are ongoing.”

Police say the alleged flasher was described as having dark curly hair, was lying in the dunes with a blue towel around his waist and was holding a pair of binoculars.

Anyone on the beach that day and saw a man matching that description is asked to call Limavady police on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
