A 22-year-old man who made a dramatic escape from Derry courthouse on December 23 has been arrested in the city in the early hours of this morning.
The PSNI have said he is currently at Strand Road station in Derry. He had been at large for six days. His escape from the court at Bishop Street was captured by television cameras.
He was due to appear in court on Wednesday, December 23, charged with assaulting a couple and stealing Christmas presents and money from them.
The 22-year-old was driven by police from Strand Road station to the court on Bishop Street on the morning in question. The vehicle was parked in a secure area outside the building, but when the man got out he climbed over a six-foot high security fence.
A police officer tried to catch him, but the man then scaled a second security fence, this one ten feet high.
He then walked through the turnstiles and sprinted along the street.
